Juha Kotilainen, from INFACT partner University of Eastern Finland, joined the Smart Mining, Smart Environment, Smart Society Conference, earlier in July 2019, in South Africa, in Midrand near Johannesburg. He presented results of his research and experiences from Finnish mining and exploration, and the issue of social acceptance and challenges of stakeholder engagement. The Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy hosted this exciting conference. Juha linked the Finnish and South African knowledge and discussed also details about the research activities at INFACT. The driving theme of the conference was how mining has to evolve in the face of new technological developments and environmental challenges.
